GLOBAL FOOD SECURITY: ETHICAL AND LEGAL CHALLENGES
9TH CONGRESS OF THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD ETHICS

16-18 SEPTEMBER 2010, UNIVERSITY OF DEUSTO - UNIVERSITY OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY, BILBAO, SPAIN

The Inter-University Chair of the BBVA Foundation - Provincial Government of Biscay in Law and the Human Genome (Universities of Deusto and of The Basque Country) is delighted to announce that the 9th Congress of the European Society for Agricultural and Food Ethics (EurSafe) will be held on: 16-18 September 2010 at the University of Deusto and the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao – Spain).

This Conference, which will be held this year in Bilbao, just close to the emblematic Guggenheim Museum, was preceded by others at Nottingham (2009), Vienna (2007), Oslo (2006), Lovaina (2004), Toulouse (2003), Florence (2001), Copenhagen (2000) and Wageningen (1999).

Over the last ten years, EurSafe has been a scientific forum in which hundreds of professionals and academics from different disciplines and countries have shared the results of their research on sustainability in agriculture, livestock and food production models. They are joined by a concern to find balance between technological improvements in those sectors and values that are fundamental to European coexistence. They are also focused on local development and preservation of culture and traditions, quality and food safety and consumer protection. Aquaculture and ecological production are also other areas of concern, as well as issues proposed by bioenergy and agrifood biotechnology.

At this time, 130 researchers from more than 20 countries have registered their presentation proposals for the Conference, which will be published by the prestigious Wageningen Academics Publishers.
